The Margaret + George Make News gala fashion show and dinner, in support of the Breast Cancer Reconstruction Program at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, was a smashing sold-out success Monday night.

The 6th Margaret + George event, presented by BMO, welcomed more than 200 guests at the Globe and Mail Centre in Toronto with featured model Maye Musk showcasing the Spring/Summer 2018 Runway collection from New York City designer Sally LaPointe.

The money raised will help fund a Physician Assistant for Dr. Toni Zhong’s Breast Cancer Reconstruction Program (part of the Breastober campaign) at The Princess Margaret.

“Margaret + George Make News is an amazing event that raised funds crucial to helping us Conquer Cancer in Our Lifetime. The money will help support the Cancer Centre's leading breast restoration program,” says Paul Alofs, President & CEO of The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation.

“Breast reconstruction is a journey that our patients choose to embark on to improve their physical and psychosocial well-being after mastectomy for breast cancer. The UHN Breast Reconstruction Program is the highest volume and the only dedicated breast reconstruction centre in Ontario that performs the most advanced techniques of breast reconstructions,” says Zhong.

Around 750-1000 breast reconstruction surgeries are performed each year through the program, composed of three plastic surgeons and one nurse coordinator who work alongside six surgeons operating out of the Toronto General Hospital, Princess Margaret and Mount Sinai Hospital.

Zhong says a physician assistant will help triage the new referrals, prioritize the urgency of consultations and provide important educational materials to the newly referred patients to the programs.
