Friendship is something that everyone values, and it can make a world of a difference in someone’s life. For Angela Machado, friendship is what drove her to serve the members of her community who were being impacted by breast cancer.

She founded “Circle of Friends,” an annual fundraiser event that aims to not only raise funds for breast cancer research at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, but also gives hope to those that are currently fighting their battle against cancer.

Now in its 18th year, the Jan. 27 event aims to raise $80,000 to fund the Dr. Srikala Sridhar Research Fund (previously known as Breast Cancer Research) at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre. To date, they have raised over $725,000 towards breast cancer research.

Machado explains the inspiration behind Circle of Friends started just as an evening with friends who  realized they had the potential to create a positive impact on their community. “(We thought), ‘Why don’t we help out our friends since many of them have had breast cancer.’”

Her vision for the night is simple: “We want to make this a fun night, where (the guests) can forget about everything. They dance, they eat, they drink, they have a ball.” More importantly, she envisions a future where there is a cure for breast cancer.

The evening will be filled with food and entertainment, in addition to door prizes and a silent auction.

Circle of Friends is being held at 1263 Wilson Ave #200, North York at the Local 183 Union Hall on Saturday, January 27th. The event starts at 5:30pm and tickets will be sold at the door for $65 per person.
