Renowned Canadian soccer coach, Carlo Del Monte, has raised $13,000 for The Princess Margaret

A renowned Canadian soccer coach keeps his community on its feet one goal at a time. Carlo Del Monte started an initiative he calls ‘Salute to Soccer’ in 2000 to help raise funds for cancer research, a cause close to his heart.

Since then, Del Monte has raised an outstanding $100,000 for various cancer organizations, including $13,000 for The Princess Margaret, through a series of soccer tournaments and galas. His experience from coaching the Canadian Club Championship with Club Italia and Hamilton Steelers in the 1980’s has enabled him to share his skill, passion, and wisdom in soccer with his community.

Even though he’s raised an impressive amount of funds for cancer research, his vision for Salute to Soccer is even bigger. Del Monte hopes to start a month-long ‘Kick 4 Cancer’ soccer tournament reaching every Canadian from coast to coast with a goal of $36 million.

“It’s all about what we’re going to do in the future. So why $36 million? That is the population of Canada. One dollar for every person. That’s been the goal since day one.”

With such a grand vision, Del Monte enlisted the help of Mary Pinero, a local banker who believed that this event could be a game changer. They are set to meet with The Canadian Soccer Association later this month to develop Kick 4 Cancer.

“This is Carlo’s passion. This is Carlo’s dream. He can do so much, but at the end [of the day] we need the people, we need the players to play the game,” says Pinero.

This past November, Del Monte and Pinero hosted a Kick 4 Cancer Gala to celebrate their accomplishments throughout the year including the generous funds raised for The Princess Margaret and all of the prosperous opportunities ahead.
