After having experienced exceptional care for their father and husband Gerald, the Kirsh family wanted to do something special to honour the many staff and volunteers who assisted them on their cancer journey.  In collaboration with The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation and the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre they established The Gerald Kirsh Humanitarian Awards.

These awards give patients and their families an opportunity to say “thank you” in a unique way by nominating any staff or volunteer who have gone above and beyond the call of duty to provide outstanding care.

These awards honour two Princess Margaret employees or volunteers who demonstrate an outstanding commitment to humanitarian care for cancer patients. You can nominate any Princess Margaret staff member or volunteer who contributes directly to a patient's care.

How to nominate

You can nominate up to two people per year. To nominate someone, complete the following nomination form.

 Nomination Deadline

The deadline for nominations for the November awards is September 15. Nominations received after the September 15 deadline will be considered for the awards the following year.
