A clinical trial saved Jen’s life.

Jen’s story is remarkable. A talented actor and producer, in 2021 she was at the height of her career and developing her first television series when she discovered a lump in her breast. Or, as she calls it, “the tiny lump that ruined everything.”

That lump turned out to be De novo stage 4 metastatic triple-negative breast cancer — a rare and aggressive diagnosis that left Jen facing an uncertain future at just 37 years old. Luckily, Jen was referred to The Princess Margaret, where she was introduced to Dr. Eitan Amir, one of our world-class oncologists.

Dr. Amir recalls their first meeting: “Jen came to us looking for hope and thanks to donor-funded research, we were able to offer her a clinical trial for a cutting-edge treatment.” The trial was bold, but it offered her the best chance of survival.

“I needed someone to tell me that there was a chance,” Jen said, although she knew there were no guarantees. She proceeded, “There is a chance.”

The clinical trial wasn’t easy—but Jen persevered. The treatment combined chemotherapy and immunotherapy, which is a revolutionary approach that helps the body’s immune system target cancer. After just one treatment, her tumour had shrunk by 50% and within six months, her scans were clear. Jen and her family could finally exhale—she was going to survive.

Today, Jen is off treatment entirely and going strong with no evidence of disease. She is back to her creative passions and inspiring everyone she meets.
