Immunotherapy Saved Terry’s Life
Terry was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in 2020. He began an aggressive chemotherapy treatment plan to shrink his growing tumour, which had quickly reached the size of a softball.Throughout his treatment, he continued to do his daily morning radio show on CKDO Oshawa, without ever letting his audience know of the intense fatigue and nausea he was experiencing.
When his initial treatment plan failed, he was referred to The Princess Margaret and was placed under the care of Dr. Prica, a hematologist. She told him he’d be a good candidate for immunotherapy, specifically CAR T-cell therapy.
This innovative advancement in cancer treatment involved removing the T-cells from Terry’s blood, training them to fight cancer, multiplying them, and then putting the cells back into his body.
“There’s no doubt that CAR T-cell therapy saved my life,” recalls Terry. “My treatment was brand new. And it wouldn’t have existed if there had not been people who gave money for cancer research.”
On New Year’s Day, 2022, Terry reached remission and was cleared to return home. Terry is a living example of the progress that has been made in cancer therapy, thanks to the generous support of caring donors like you.
