New Honorary Chair for the Ride wants the event to be even more ambitious in its goals

Cam.jpgThe Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer is fortunate to have Cameron Fowler, Group Head, Canadian Personal & Commercial Banking for BMO Financial Group, stepping up as Honorary Chair for the 2016 event. As a senior leader for BMO, Cam plans to grow the bank’s participation in the Ride—not just in Toronto but across the country.  He also hopes to amplify the participation of all banks in the event.

“This event is the best there is…professional, highly motivating and ambitious in its goals,” says Cam.  “There are opportunities for participants to meet and hear from some of the world-leading scientists conducting cancer research at The Princess Margaret, and it makes the effort to ride and fundraise feel vital and appreciated.”

In the 2015 event, the BMO team raised over $250,000 and the teams from the big 5 banks raised a collective $1.2 million. Cam will be challenging all of these teams to raise even more in 2016. “We all need to work together to do the right thing.”

Cam is passionate about both the event and the reason for it.  “Some of my close friends and family have been affected by cancer, and that is the case for most people today.  One of the most inspiring things about the ride for me is riding alongside a survivor, hearing their story and sharing a moment.”

There were 413 participants in the 2015 event riding with yellow flags.

Honorary Chairs for the Ride help to grow the Ride to Conquer Cancer by introducing the event to their network of contacts, offering advice on how to keep it challenging and engaging, and participating in promotional opportunities.

In 2010, Cam was named one of Canada’s Top 40 Under 40.  He is also a member of the board of directors of CivicAction and a member of the Executive Council of the Canadian Bankers Association.
