Barb Tiano voted ‘Torontonian of the Year’

When CBC’s Metro Morning radio team invited listeners to call in and suggest who should be named “Torontonian of the Year” because of their special impact on the quality of life in our city, our information desk receptionist Barb Tiano was nominated by long-time Princess Margaret volunteer Nina Betson (seen in photo with CBC host Gill Deacon). On December 18, the CBC judging panel selected Barb as “Torontonian of the Year” from among the many dozens of nominees.
For all those who work at The Princess Margaret, this is no surprise at all since Barb has been the heart and soul of our caring community for 35+ years, helping countless patients and family members from the moment they walk through our doors. Congratulations, Barb! Thanks for everything you do, every day. We are so proud of you!

In an interview with CBC Reporter Gill Deacon, Barb said, “I basically help people as they come into the hospital. We try to ease the journey for patients a little bit. I have wonderful volunteers that work with me and we take patients to clinics and we talk about the weather, my sweaters, the flowers or anything to take their minds off what they’re doing at the hospital. I just help people and enjoy doing it.”
