The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation, together with presenting sponsor Harry Rosen Inc., yesterday held the first annual Golf to Conquer Cancer, and proudly announced that over $800,000 had been raised, making it the highest-grossing, single-day golf fundraiser supporting the cancer cause across Canada. Proceeds will be directed to advance Personalized Cancer Medicine at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, one of the top 5 cancer research centres in the world.

The inaugural event took place at Coppinwood Golf Club in Uxbridge, Ontario. Golf to Conquer Cancer, presented by Harry Rosen Inc., benefited from a wide range of support, including national gold sponsors Cadillac Fairview, Rodair International, Great-West Life, London Life and Canada Life. The event put some of Canada’s pre-eminent business leaders, entrepreneurs and philanthropic supporters on the links to raise funds for the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre.

Participants competed for the Rosen Cup, which was claimed by Team CIBC with an 18-hole score of 19-under. Golfers also had the opportunity to compete for a $1 Million Hole-In-One prize sponsored by Jones Brown Insurance Brokers, and an additional Hole-In-One prize of an F-Type Convertible courtesy of Jaguar-Land Rover Thornhill valued at $120,000. Contest hole prizes included made-to-measure suits from exclusive brands such as Samuelsohn, ZZegna and Giorgio Armani as well as fashion accessories from Paul & Shark, Trafalgar and top of the line golf equipment courtesy of TaylorMade, Ashworth and Adidas.

“This was a sensational event,” said a smiling Paul Alofs, President & CEO of The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation. “Golf to Conquer Cancer is a best in class golf fundraiser that has engaged wonderful new supporters.  We were thrilled that this premiere event sold out quickly and next year we plan to expand to include events at Coppinwood and the nearby Granite Golf Club—all in one day.  Most importantly, the funds raised go to support Personalized Cancer Medicine. We thank all of our sponsors and participants in Golf to Conquer Cancer, for helping The Princess Margaret lead the revolution with this new gold standard in cancer care.”

Larry Rosen, Chairman and CEO of Harry Rosen Inc., and a director on the volunteer board of The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation, said, “Golf to Conquer Cancer is an exciting new event that will raise funds to help conquer cancer in our lifetime. We're very proud of the impact we made as a company today, and look forward to expanding the program in the future. We believe in the leading-edge work of The Princess Margaret and have raised more than $3 million dollars to-date through various initiatives.”
