In Advance of #GivingTuesday I remember a Volunteer Who Gave his Time

Tuesday December 1st marks a National day of giving across Canada, known as #GivingTuesday

Organizations across the full spectrum of the non-profit sector will all likely recognize the day in one way or another.  For our marquis golf tournament fundraiser Golf to Conquer Cancer, presented by Harry Rosen Inc. and benefiting Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, we will share the link to our online donation portal, and urge readers, twitter followers and friends to make a donation of any kind to the program that will be held for the third time on Monday June 13th, 2016 at Coppinwood and Granite Golf Clubs.

The Golf to Conquer Cancer event raises important funds for Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, one of the Top 5 cancer research centres in the world, and funds the work that goes into conquering cancer in our lifetime.

At this particular time of year, many of us are eagerly anticipating the holiday season, and looking forward to spending time with family and friends.  Our team at Golf to Conquer Cancer will be remembering a friend and volunteer that was there for us as we launched the inaugural event in June 2014 and who passed away just a few short days ago.  He was a cancer warrior, a survivor, and someone who generously donated his time and skills towards the golf tournament and other Princess Margaret fundraising efforts. Perhaps it is fitting that we will remember someone for their giving nature on this day.

We will remember Trevor Andrea Da Silva for his kind spirit, for his generous and giving nature and for his enthusiasm as we created and launched this exciting new fundraising initiative.  Trevor was a key volunteer in the launch year as we raised $809,000.00 for personalized cancer medicine at Princess Margaret in Toronto.  He provided input and feedback as a volunteer that helped us improve the event as we expanded in our second year to two courses and raised $1.3 Million dollars, bringing our two year total to over $2.1 Million for the cause.

So, on #GivingTuesday this coming December 1st, our team will remember Trevor, and we would like to encourage our readers, followers, supporters and friends to consider a small act of generosity and kindness just as Trevor exhibited towards our event and our founding foursome participants - and ask you to make a donation of any kind to Golf to Conquer Cancer in his honour.

Thank you to all those people that make volunteering an important part of their lives. We are all enriched by the process. RIP Trevor.
