It is hard to believe that it has already been four weeks since the 2nd Annual Golf to Conquer Cancer tournament took place at Coppinwood Golf Club and Granite Golf Club on Monday June 15th! A very special thank you goes out to all the staff and management of both courses for partnering with The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation to hold Canada's top grossing single day golf fundraiser for cancer research.

Building on the success of the inaugural event last June, that raised over $800,000.00 for Princess Margaret, a few subtle enhancements were made to the event program that would add value to the participant experience and streamline the event.

On the day, nearly two hundred participants were joined by Professionals from the PGA of Ontario, and set the two courses on fire with aggressive low scores of fourteen and fifteen under par.  I suppose it helped that the pro's could position their team 280-300 yards off the tee on each of the long par 5 holes, and perhaps within inches of the pin on tight par 5 holes.

Participants in the event once again had the opportunity to travel to the exclusive private courses by themselves, or in the comfort of a limousine, ensuring that they were rested for the day of golf and relaxed as they returned home at the end of a great day.

On arrival at the course, golfers from both facilities were treated to an identical experience in terms of welcome gifts, registration, breakfast, on course lunch and contest features.  Other than the varied shotgun start time between the two courses - a best in class, unique and consistent experience was had by all.

  • Beyond the move from foursome caddy's to PGA professionals, the new two course model required additional limousine transportation between the courses after golf and before the networking reception that took place at Granite Golf Club.
  • Custom fit drivers as a "tee gift" were changed to cater to the "finishing game" with custom fit putters provided by TaylorMade to all participants.
  • The Jones Brown $1 Million Hole In One Contest would now include a massive gallery of fans beyond the green with the addition of a marquis tent off the patio overlooking the 9th and 18th green's at Granite Golf Club.
  • Made to measure shirts were once again offered to all participants, but with a team of six top tailors and staff from presenting sponsor Harry Rosen at BOTH courses - all participants were sized up and selected their fabrics well before the schedule start of the round.
  • The two course model obviously required the addition of a separate trophy, and winners were crowned as champions of both courses, winning their own championship trophy - The Rosen Cup AND each member receiving an Ermenegildo Zegna Jacket - our own version of the coveted Championship Jacket!

  • Another requirement of the two course program was that we offer not one but TWO luxury vehicles as prizes for a second Hole in One contest.  Thanks to Jaguar Land Rover of Thornhill, golfers at Coppinwood took a shot at a 2016 Range Rover Sport, while golfers at Granite took aim for a 2016 Jaguar F-Type Coupe. (Unfortunately not many golfers had the opportunity to take this shot as Glen Murray of Toronto nailed the ACE within the first hour of the day!)

Following a great day on the golf course, all participants, professionals, sponsors and special guests gathered beneath and outside of the marquis tent off the beautiful clubhouse, took in the hole in one contest, enjoyed a wonderful marche style reception and wines courtesy of Noble Estates Wines and Spirits. This set the stage for a spirited live auction in the main dining room that saw nearly $160,000.00 raised for the cause with successful bidders set to enjoy amazing experiences at The 2016 Masters, on the old course of St. Andrew's in Scotland, golfing the emerald isle of Ireland, and much much more.

As participants started to leave for the evening, a final parting gift consisting of a beautiful leather bag, premium wine and a pocket square were presented to the pleasure of the guests.  Many new participants were amazed that the gifts continued to come event this point in the day.

When all was said and done, two of Ontario's top exclusive private golf courses played host to close to two hundred of Canada's leading executives, entrepreneurs and philanthropists - all sharing a desire to conquer cancer in our lifetime.  The result? Over $1.3 Million was raised in just the second year, bringing the two year total to over $2.1 Million raised through golf for Personalized Cancer Medicine at Princess Margaret.

On Monday June 13th, 2016 the 3rd Annual Golf to Conquer Cancer tournament will take place.  Thanks to the continued support and presenting sponsorship of Harry Rosen Inc., and the partnership with Coppinwood & Granite Golf Clubs - the 2016 event will look to grow in number of participants and in dollars raised - while providing the best in class experience all participants have become accustomed to receiving.

I encourage you to keep an eye on the event website www.golftoconquercancer.ca in the coming weeks, and would ask first and second year participating foursomes to consider signing up early, making a commitment to hit the links with us again next June - because the buzz from this year's group seems to be that everyone is coming back and an early sell out looks promising!

Until 2016!
