On September 9th we celebrate the 15th year of a major walk in support of Princess Margaret Cancer Centre. Our Walk will have raised about $168 Million in 15 years.
The Walk began in 2003, just 2 weeks after I arrived as the new CEO of the The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation.  Back then it was a 2 day walk called The Weekend to End Breast Cancer and it was led by our board member Audrey Loeb. I walked and was incredibly inspired by our walker community and volunteers. The Walk transformed again to raise funds for all women’s cancers, today it is known as the Rexall OneWalk to Conquer Cancer.  OneWalk, One Day, All Cancers. The walk has continued to transform, our walk community has also transformed, and certainly cancer research continues to transform.
OneWalk has transformed lives and our cancer practice.
This year’s walk features 3 route options- 15km, 25km and 40km.  No matter the distance, the funds and awareness raised will be transformational. The recent statistics are frightening- nearly 50% or 1 in 2 Canadians face a cancer diagnosis in their lifetime. We must walk forward ….we must not walk away. Personally, the walk is a highlight of the year for my wife Sheila and I. Our sincere gratitude and passionate thanks to all who have walked and who will walk September 9th with us.
The Princess Margaret is one of the world’s top 5 cancer research centres because of the incredible support of our donor community.  Our Walkers, for 15 years, are heroes and warriors for our cause. We will Conquer Cancer In Our Lifetime. See you on September 9th as a walker, volunteer, spectator or donor.
Your support is transformational!
