Michael Burns
President & CEO

Michael Burns brings his diverse background and skills, along with his passion of giving to the community, to his role as President & CEO of The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation. He joined the organization at the beginning of 2018.
Michael has over 20 years of experience in marketing, financial services, technology and entrepreneurship. 

Most recently, he was the CEO of the Invictus Games Toronto 2017, the largest international adaptive sport competition in the world featuring ill and injured soldiers and veterans. Michael led the execution of the Games in Toronto, building the organization from the ground up, which took more than two years. Christine Lasky
Chief Brand Officer & Vice President Strategic Initiatives

Christine Lasky is the Chief Brand Officer and Vice President of Strategic Initiatives at The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation. She leads all branding, communications, website, and public relations activities,  as well as Princess Margaret Lotteries, Golf to Conquer Cancer  and new initiatives. Christine has always been at the forefront of social media – in fact, she spearheaded Canada’s first Twitter party and first Periscope broadcast for the social enterprise sector.

Christine oversees $26 million in net fundraising revenue annually. She has been involved in many of the Foundation’s leading brands, including the Ride to Conquer Cancer, Road Hockey to Conquer Cancer and OneWalk to Conquer Cancer. Ramona Oss
Associate Vice President, Business Development / Ride to Conquer Cancer

Ramona joined the Foundation in 2014, taking on the role of Director with the annual Ride to Conquer Cancer event. She is proud to support one of the largest and most successful cycling events in Canada, an event that has raised over $175 million for cancer research at The Princess Margaret.

Prior to this, Ramona’s career spanned across the retail, sales and licensing industries at companies like Walmart and Viacom, always with a focus on business development. She also is on the Children's Aid Society of Toronto Board where she is a member of the Quality and Outcomes Committee.

Sherri Freedman
Chief Development Officer

Sherri Freedman oversees major and estate giving at The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation. She played a crucial role  in the  development, implementation, and successful completion of the  Princess Margaret’s  BILLION DOLLAR CHALLENGE in 2017, the largest single fundraising campaign in the history of Canadian healthcare. Sherri was  also part  of  the  team that helped to secure a  historic  $50  million  gift for Princess Margaret Cancer Centre.

Sherri has an Honours BA from the University of Toronto, a master's degree in English Literature from the University of British Columbia and is a registered yoga teacher. She spent 14 years in various fundraising and management roles before joining the Mount Sinai Hospital Foundation in 2001 before transitioning to The Princess Margaret... Read More>>

Steve Merker
Vice President of Business Development

Steve Merker is the Vice President of Business Development for The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation. His main responsibilities include managing and overseeing The Ride to Conquer Cancer and Road Hockey to Conquer Cancer. Since 2007, “The RIDE” has emerged as the largest cycling fundraiser in Canada…bringing in over $119 million for cancer research at The Princess Margaret. Road Hockey to Conquer Cancer is the world’s largest Road Hockey fundraiser and the most rewarding hockey experience in the nation! He is still living the dream by participating in all these athletic fundraisers for The Princess Margaret. Following his induction into the McMaster Hall of Fame after being awarded the Ivor Wynne Trophy for Male Athlete of the Year at McMaster in 1990, for Steve, every day is game day.

Karen Adams
Associate Vice President, Business Development / OneWalk to Conquer Cancer

Karen Adams is passionate about conquering cancer through her leadership of the Rexall OneWalk to Conquer Cancer, one of the top 10 peer-to-peer fundraising events in Canada.

Prior to joining The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation in 2011, Karen served as a Senior Merchandising Executive for several of Canada’s top retailers, enjoying a long and successful career in brand building, product innovation and design, and global sourcing. Karen is inspired by engaging communities of thousands of supporters to lace up their shoes, fundraise and walk united with a common purpose – to Conquer Cancer In Our Lifetime!

Nick Taylor, Senior Director, New Revenue and Chief Golf Officer, Golf to Conquer Cancer

Nick joined the foundation in 2013. He's responsible for the annual  Golf to Conquer Cancer  event. He also plays a supporting role on the Princess Margaret Lottery Program.

Cindy Goelman
Associate Vice President, Special Events

Cindy Berk Goelman is the  Associate Vice President, Special Events for The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation. She joined the Foundation in 2009 and has spent her career working in not for profit event fundraising. She is looking forward to her first experience with “blogging” and hopes to have a lively conversation about the 150 third party events that take place to benefit The Princess Margaret.
