Mt. Kilimanjaro Climb

Thank You!

Dear Friends, Neighbours and Supporters;
Further to my call for help in supporting my dual goal of climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro and supporting Prostate Cancer Research at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre  through The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation (PMCF), back in September,

I am happy to report to you that I was able to reach the top of the mountain on 29 Sept. 2019 in an eight-day climb and descend, as documented by the attached picture showing me with the Canada / The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation/UHN flags at the very top of Kilimanjaro at the Uhuru peak at the 5895 m level, as well as a related certificate issued by the Kilimanjaro National Parks and the Tanzanian National Parks uthorities.
Using this opportunity, I like to express my profound appreciation for the financial support that PMCF received from many of you through my page on their web-site.  It was this positive bolster from you, my supporters, that carried me through the difficult times on the mountain, particularly during the final, night ascent from the Barafu (base) camp at 4673 m when the grueling physical/psychological effects of high altitude almost prevented me from completing the task. It was not easy, but we surmounted the difficulties and topped the mountain! Walter, my 70 years old colleague and climbing partner from Chicago and I (at 80) got a great motivational support from Frank, our superb Tanzanian guide and that also was a factor in our success. We are also greatly indebted to the wonderful people of Tanzania who provided us with great interactions and memories and an immense unforgettable experience not only on the mountain but throughout our stay in the country.  Our preparations and training also paid out since our performance on the mountain, which was monitored daily, including our blood oxygen level, was good enough to qualify us for the final ascent.

This concludes this year’s my Kilimanjaro climbing effort, but it does not close the window to donations to PMCF.  Anyone who would care to contribute to our cause of fighting the “sexiest” (prostate) cancer mountain, and particularly those who have not done so as yet, please check the following web-page: https://thepmcf.ca/JuliusGrodski and DONATE, PLEASE!
