It’s the beginning of April and we have just two months until The Ride to Conquer Cancer! Whether you are a rider or you support someone who rides, this year will be the best year yet. With more riders than ever before and the addition of the 200 mile route, the camaraderie and emotion shared among participants will surely prove to be special.
In 2010, the Ride will be welcoming some new people – like Terry Hoddinott – who is an avid cyclist but not like every other person you might see travelling on the roads.
When Terry was just three years old, both of his eyes were removed after he was diagnosed with retinoblastoma (RB) – a rare form of eye cancer.
Even though Terry can’t see, his many accomplishments include having a brown belt in Judo, downhill skiing, riding Zip Lines in Costa Rica and parasailing in St Maarten. Terry also completed his first triathlon in September, 2008.
Terry will be adding The Ride to Conquer Cancer to his long list of achievements. Why? Because he has witnessed the impact that cancer research can have over the course of his life. It is because of Terry and his family’s remarkable journey, that I want to share with you just some of his story and why he is personally doing the ride this coming June, so click here to learn more about him.
Whether you are personally fighting cancer, a survivor like Terry, supporting a loved one in the battle against cancer or donating in honour of someone, the impact you are having through the Ride is remarkable.
You can check out some of the work you are directly supporting, in the 2010 Ride to Conquer Cancer Impact of Funds document. Download it and send it to your family, friends and donors so they can read about how their funds are supporting the world-leading research at The Princess Margaret. If they want to learn more about the incredible people, programs or platforms – you can direct them to The Campbell Family Cancer Research Institute website where even more information and videos are located.
Because of your support, we are one of the top 5 cancer research centres in the world. Thank you for believing in us and trusting that we are making the best use of every dollar you have generously raised or donated to The Princess Margaret. Keep up the great work!
