The Shoppers Drug Mart® Weekend to End Women’s Cancers™ - Impact Event

|
On Sunday, November 20, Weekend walkers and their supporters had the opportunity to hear first-hand about the important research work that is funded by the Weekend. The Steam Whistle Brewing Roundhouse was a great place to hear from hospital and research leaders in women’s cancers including Drs. Tak Mak, Joan Murphy and Mona Gauthier. If you weren’t able to attend the event, click below to hear about the progress being made, and why our scientists are optimistic that we will conquer cancer.
Kate Mlodzik talks about the challenge involved in diagnosing her breast cancer and how grateful she is for the personal treatment she received at the Gattuso Rapid Diagnostic Centre.
Dr. Mona Gauthier shares her unique journey—first losing her mother to breast cancer and finding out she herself is a carrier of the BRCA genetic mutation, then becoming a cancer biologist, and now a cancer survivor.
Dr. Joan Murphy talks about the gynecologic oncology programs supported by Walk funds—patient survivorship, familial and genetic counseling, and robotic surgery.
Dr. Tak Mak tells Walkers about the promising drug development work he and Dr. Dennis Slamon are collaborating on. It is focused on the aggressive triple negative breast cancer.
