Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation

As one of the top 5 cancer research centres in the world, the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre has the responsibility to improve the standard of care for cancer patients across the country, and that requires progress in many areas. In April 2012, we announced an ambitious plan—a BILLION DOLLAR CHALLENGE—to raise the funding needed to set a new gold standard for cancer care: Personalized Cancer Medicine. Because every patient’s cancer is unique, we know that individualized treatment is needed to deliver the best results.

Personalized Cancer Medicine includes all of our efforts to DETECT cancer earlier, DIAGNOSE cancer more precisely, TARGET cancer without damaging healthy tissue, and SUPPORT patients and their families through the emotional cancer journey. Changing the paradigm of cancer medicine requires a major investment, and so the largest fundraising campaign in the history of Canadian healthcare is now underway. I’m proud of what our Foundation has been able to accomplish at The Princess Margaret thanks to the generosity of our donors, and I’m excited to tell you why the theme of our five-year campaign is Believe It – WE WILL CONQUER CANCER IN OUR LIFETIME.

Every day, I have the privilege of working with one of the top 5 cancer research and medical teams in the world. They are optimistic that we are at a ‘tipping point’ in the battle with cancer, and we will soon have the advantage. This year we created a video series where many of these cancer centre leaders told us why they believe we will conquer cancer in our lifetime. This series is available on our Web site for you to view, and I hope you can take advantage of it. I want you to share their optimism.

The current statistics indicate that each Canadian has a greater than 1 in 3 chance of developing cancer, so this disease affects us all. You can be part of the solution to this problem. Our Web site showcases the many ways that you can get involved and be an active part of our campaign for Personalized Cancer Medicine. I would welcome your support.
