Princess Margaret Launches a Smoking Cessation Program

No Smoking IconQuitting smoking and tobacco can be difficult, especially during cancer treatment, but the benefits start right away and can last a long time.  Most people who are successful use one or two methods that best suit their personal needs. Research conducted at Princess Margaret provides strong evidence that the more support patients have from the family, friends and community, the easier it will be for them to quit.

To help cancer patients achieve success in their ‘quit attempts’, Princess Margaret has developed a series of videos that attempt to motivate patients by clearly stating the benefits of quitting smoking and to show them the many community resources available to them, including a one-year one-on-one program offered at the Outpatient Pharmacy at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre.

An Outpatient Pharmacist works with patients enrolled in the program to:
  • Find reasons why it is important for them to quit
  • Understand their triggers for smoking and develop a plan for how to deal with them
  • Pass along helpful tips and information
  • Get the most out of their medication
The pharmacy smoking cessation program is a free service from The Princess Margaret available to all, including patients, family members and employees. A referral is not needed for program enrolment.
