Roche Canada

rocheEmployees at Roche Canada are committed to giving back to the communities in which they live and work. Roche, a research-based healthcare company, has a long-standing and deep relationship with UHN & The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation, and its support has had a significant impact on our vision to Conquer Cancer In Our Lifetime.

In recognition of its history of philanthropic support and engagement, Foundation staff were delighted to host members of the Roche team recently at a breakfast to offer our thanks. Dr. Steve Gallinger, Head of the Hepatobiliary/Pancreatic (HPB) Surgical Oncology Program, summarized Roche’s dedication to the HPB cancer program and thanked them, in particular, for their annual support of the Roche Fellow. Fellowships are the final period of medical training that take place after residency. Princess Margaret Cancer Centre attracts some of the best and brightest trainees in the world to finish their studies here.

The 2012 Roche Fellow, Pablo Serrano from Costa Rica, spoke warmly of his experiences with Dr. Gallinger and the entire team, and thanked Roche for its generosity. Brian Jahns, Vice President, Oncology at Roche Canada noted that the company acknowledges the need to invest in gastrointestinal (GI) oncology research and added, “We are pleased to grant the Fellowship because we believe the resulting specialized training will not only benefit Canadians experiencing cancer, but will also improve care in patients with GI oncology diseases”. We greatly appreciate Roche’s ongoing support of this important medical training program.

At Roche, however, engagement goes well beyond writing cheques. Employees at all levels also take part in The Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer as riders, volunteers and crew members during this two day epic cycling event between Toronto and Niagara Falls. For the 2012 event, Roche’s Mississauga headquarters doubled as a pit stop along the route, with hundreds of staff in attendance to support the 4,852 riders on their journey. We are delighted that Roche has once again signed on as a Ride sponsor, and we look forward to greeting a sea of smiling faces at the 2013 Roche Canada pit stop.

The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation greatly appreciates the time, dedication and passion Roche Canada continues to demonstrate on so many levels. Thank you, Roche!
