Meet The Cancer Experts: SarahRose Black

My name is SarahRose Black and I work as a music therapist at Princess Margaret.

I never thought I was going to be a music therapist, never in a million years.

And looking back now, I can see certain landmarks and milestones that led to me where I am and pushed me in this direction.

So, it all kind of fit. After many years of teaching and studying music, I came to become a music therapist.

Music is able to be such a beautiful form of therapy because it targets so many different domains of the human experience.

I've always loved music and it feels so engaging and fun at times, but also quite moving at times, to be able to be in music all day, every day, with people, as they experience some of the most challenging moments of their lives.

But they open up and they share with me through song, which is such a gift.

That I feel is a huge privilege and responsibility for myself as a clinician and healthcare provider.

And that's what gets me up in the morning and gets me to work because I can't wait to bear witness to more people's journeys and experiences. It's truly a privilege.
