Barb: What options are available to women who are faced with mastectomies in terms of reconstruction, or in treatment overall?

We went to Dr. Toni Zhong, head of Breast Reconstruction Services at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, to tell us more.

Dr. Zhong: Well, if you're interested in reconstruction at the same time, then please come to see one of our plastic surgeons. There are numerous techniques at the same time for reconstructing your breast.

But, if you would like to take some time to recover after the mastectomy, we can always build your breast down the road. We can use your own tissue to build a very natural, and aesthetic looking breast mound. Or we can use implants, which have become very safe, and are very personalized to your type of body frame.
