The Princess Margaret's Dr. Jonathan Irish Elected to American Head and Neck Society Presidency

The American Head and Neck Society (AHNS) has elected Dr. Jonathan Irish to serve as its President during the 2017-2018 year.  Dr. Irish is currently the Provincial Head in the Surgical Oncology Program at the Cancer Care Ontario, the Kevin and Sandra Sullivan Chair in Surgical Oncology at the University of Toronto and Professor, Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at the University of Toronto.  

Dr. Jonathan IrishThe AHNS is the single largest organization in North America for the advancement of research and education in head and neck oncology.  “I am honored to lead this incredible society,” said Dr. Irish. “The AHNS is the foremost society in head and neck cancer research and I look forward to continuing to advance our mission, centered around what matters most, quality patient care.”

Dr. Irish has served the AHNS for years in a variety of positions.  In addition to serving on the Executive Committee as Vice President and President-Elect, he has served as 2016 Conference Chair for the AHNS 9th International Conference on Head and Neck Cancer, “Technology Transforming Head and Neck Cancer”, and the 2012 Program Chair for the AHNS 8th International Conference on Head and Neck Cancer, “Bridging the Gap: Caring for the Head and Neck Cancer Patient.” He was a Fellow-at-Large on the AHNS Council from 2008-2011, and he served on the program, prevention and early detection, finance, publications, and CME measurement committees.  Dr. Irish’s term as president will conclude at the 2018 AHNS Annual Meeting, which will take place during the Combined Otolaryngology Spring Meetings (COSM) on April 18-22, 2018 at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center in National Harbor, Maryland.
