(Toronto, Ontario) The world is talking about immune therapy and today Paul Alofs, President and CEO of The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation, dropped by BNN to chat about biotech’s next big thing, namely immunotherapy drug development.

Jon Erlichman and Amber Kanwar, co-hosts of Business Day AM, asked thought provoking questions about why everyone is so excited about immunotherapy and Canada’s role in all of this.

Highlights from the interview:

What is this type of treatment?
Well they made something extremely complicated very straight forward. It’s basically harnessing the body’s immune system to fight cancer.

What about Canada’s role in what’s taking place right now?
Just recently there was a group of people led by Vice President Joe Biden, Katie Couric that visited the Vatican to meet with Pope Francis. There was a conference around immune therapy and regenerative medicine and our Dr. Tak Mak is the one who did the briefing on immune therapy, so Toronto and Princess Margaret in particular play a central role in this.
